No-Fly Zone

A large part of southeastern Iceland is a no-fly zone due to the eruption in Dyngjujökull glacier. The decision about the no-fly zone is re-estimated every two hours.

Decision about the closure was taken because specialists estimate that if the eruption breaks through Dyngjujökull's ice cap and a plume of ash rises into the air, ash will spread to the area in question, southeast of Dyngjujökull glacier. The no-fly zone is approximately 50,000 square kilometres.

The map shows how international flights are being diverted around the no-fly zone around and southeast of Dyngjujökull.
