So far, Iceland has been free of cockroaches. A lot of cockroaches and other insects can be found at the Base. „This is something we cannot ignore“ he says. These insects have arrived in Iceland with large shipments to the Base, that are imported without much inspection from Icelandic officials. „I think there is enough for them to eat in these housings“ says Erling who believes the cockroaches will have no trouble escaping from the base and into other towns. „Cockroaches spread easily with people“ he says.
